Why are people going Galt?

If you do a search on going galt, you'll find many blogs, articles and forum posts suggesting that going Galt is a silly notion. One of the most interesting concepts I've come across is that it is not time for this kind of action because in 1957 the top tax rates were much higher. But this misses the point. Just because at one point the top tax rate was 91% doesn't mean that anything less than that is acceptable.

How much of someone's hard earned income do the looters and moochers think they have a right to confiscate?

When should we stop going Galt?

When the United States of America returns to the values of the founders. When a man is judged not by what he "gives back to the community" but by what he makes possible. You will know this has happened when your payroll taxes start to go down, and the rhetoric of "fair share" is gone from the public discourse. You will also know that the battle is one when the economy is growing, but politicians in Washington still talk about lowering regulations, taxes and spending. We are nowhere near this at present.

When we start drilling for oil in our own country instead of relying on others for the fuel of our economy, you will know we are on the right track.

When Free Market Capitalism is properly regarded as the only path to true freedom, you will know we are winning.

When the last thing Congress and the president wish to do, is to take money away from someone's paycheck, we will know that we have returned to the values that generate wealth and a higher standard of living.

When a politician suggests a law that is unconstitutional, and there is outrage, we will know we are on the right track.

When a judge is impeached because he ruled against someone who had the constitution on his side, we will know.

When the man who makes money is the hero (and remember there is a difference between making money and "getting money" we will know.

When we are no longer guilted in to supporting the hero of the left, the single mother, we will know we are on the right track.

If you wish to have a single bullet point to show when you should start producing and making money with all your effort, and stop going Galt, it is this:

When the fruits of your labor and your mind belong to you and you alone, when no other person can make a claim on what is rightly yours, you will know that freedom has prevailed.
