Going Galt
How do I go Galt without going on strike ?
Not everyone can afford to go on strike against the looters. We'll break it down by level. We'll set the suggested level on the home page, and on this page. As the looting gets worse, many more will join whether they realize it or not. At some point the taxes are so high, and the regulations so intrusive, it doesn't make sense to produce anything but what it takes to survive.
Remember going on strike is hard work, but it is not sacrifice. We give donations to political candidates for own self interest.
Level 1 Going Rearden
When the government and society is getting out of the way, we work like dogs to build our wealth, and enjoy our lives. We support politicians who continue the good fight. Remember, free market capitalism is not pro business. Bailouts, and trade restrictions are for businesses that don't succeed on their own. The basic belief of free markets is the people decide what business should produce, and what they should charge. Government does not intervene on behalf of business, and does not make laws regulating business.
Going Galt
Level 2
The first step is to stop supporting the looters. This can be done easily by supporting candidates (yeah, they need our money too!) who will fight the looters. You can also stop the Hollywood enablers by not going to movies, buying DVDs, renting DVDs and cancelling your movie channels. You should also actively encourage people to buy the book Atlas Shrugged. Even if you don't like the book, it helps to get the message out that we've had enough of government stealing from us.
Level 3
Everything you've done at level 1, and more. Turn off your guilt switch. If an employee is not producing at top levels, fire them. Drasatically reduce charitable donations (unless it is to your church, or a family member). Visit your local school board, or send a letter asking the economics department to teach free market capitalism. A great book to suggest is Thomas Sowells Basic Economics. I would also suggest donating Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, A man in full and other good books to your local school library. Put the pinch on local looters by voting down new tax levies, and supporting groups that fight new taxes. On the other hand it's a good time to support vocational education and two year technical colleges. Stop giving money to your college alma mater. Just about every college embraces a socialist ideology. Devote time to spreading the message. Send e-mail links to this site and others that support our strike.
Level 4
This is hard core. Stop investing (Capital gains will take your profit anyway) in anything but gold and silver and cash. We are still working but only for ourselves. No many for anyone but the radical politicians who want to drastically cut taxes, lower regulations and get out of the way. Only spend money on the things you need, and only by high quality items from fellow producers. Boycott everyone and everything not behind the effort. Start to plan for Level 5.
Level 5
Dropping out. This is where we move to Atlasville, or your own Galt's Gulch. Closed communities that exist only to support each other. If it gets this bad, the constitution is all but gone, tax rates are 70% or higher, and wealth is confiscated directly.
